The psalmist gives us words to live by: “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” 9 God always has the final say. You can think something is right, you can feel something is right, and you can be convinced that something is right. But if God says it’s wrong, then it’s wrong. In the game of life, God’s Word is always the trump card.
This may sound like God is a deity with a list of abusive rules. But He is actually a God who knows better than we do how to avoid pain, frustration, and destruction in our lives. Because He sees the edge of the cliff clearer than we do, He places guardrails next to the drop-off. Trusting that God has our best interests in mind means following His commands. And when we follow His commands, we often avoid heartache, pitfalls, and the destruction of our reputation.
Three men in the Old Testament have absolutely nothing negative said about them: Joseph, Jonathan, and Daniel. If you study the lives of all three of these men, you will find the reason they maintained such a pure and blameless life is that they answered these questions. They all three knew how to say no even when a king or a crowd said yes.
God said, “Those who honor me I will honor.” 10 If you read the rest of Daniel’s story, you will find that God honored him and his companions physically, mentally, and spiritually. And when you trust Him, He will honor you too.

After all, I’d fastened his for much of his life. Then he began reading a checklist out loud: He was verifying that the door was closed and locked and other safety measures were being followed.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“I’m going through my checklist. I have to do this every time I fly to make sure we’re ready for takeoff.”
“Let me help you do that,” I said.
“No. I’ll do it myself.”
“Can’t we just take off?” I said. “I’ve got work to do this afternoon, and there’s no one around here.”
“Nope,” he said without glancing up from his sheet. “This is the way it works. Can’t take you up otherwise.”
There we sat on the runway, all by ourselves. Nobody else taxiing; it’s just us. Suddenly, he yells out the window, “Clear!”
“Why did you do that?” I asked, a bit startled.
“You have to make sure there’s nobody around the airplane before you start the propeller.”
We finally took off and soared over our neighborhood. I saw roadways and hills and trees that I pass by each day, only this time from a fresh angle. I couldn’t wait to get back home to tell Teresa how we checked the plane out together to make sure it was ready to fly. And
